They Jumped!

Well today was the day, Kage and Kelly participated in the first annual Saratoga Springs Polar Plunge for the Special Olympics. This year they held it at the Saratoga Springs Marina. The ice they cut out so they could jump in was about 12 - 14 inches thick. The outside temps weren't so bad. Unfortuanetly I really suck taking pictures. Here is Kage before he jumped in!

Here Kage and Kelly are talking to a reporter.

They finally got to dry off.

Here is an extremly shaky video that you can kind of see them jumping.
My Brother Cameron and his Fiance Kathryn were very spontaneous and decided to jump in, even though they had no change of clothes.

We spent the morning out shooting rockets. (I forgot my camera for that part) Kelly was trying to certify to a level II which means he can shoot, bigger engines that go faster and higher. The rocket went up great but the parachute got tangled and didn't open so the rocket crashed. It will fly again someday but it needs a little repair work. Hopefully he will be able to try again in March. My Dad flew his rocket a couple of times and my brother flew his a few times too. All in all it was still a fun morning. My father-in-law took lots of pictures at the rocket shoot and the polar plunge so if we ever get pictures I will post them sometime. A big thanks to all of those who donated money to Kelly and Kage for the Polar plunge!

Saturday is the big Polar Plunge. We would still love it if anyone could donate to Kelly and Kage! The link is on the top right corner of our blog! They are only part way to their goal. If anyone would like to come and watch them plunge they will be going in around 1:00 pm down at the Saratoga Springs Marina. Anyone is welcome to come watch.

polar plunge

Kelly and Kage are planning on doing the polar plunge again this year. This year they will be jumping into Utah lake! I put a link in the top corner so you can donate to their cause. It all goes to the special olympics. If you want to come watch them plunge then that will be at 10:00 am at the pelican marina in Saratoga Springs, on Sat. Feb. 21! Help reach their goal! Love you all.

Grand Targhee

This last weekend we took a trip up to Grand Targhee ski resort in Wyoming. It was a way fun trip! We drove up Thursday. We had a room in the lodge right at the resort. This is the view of the shops and the rest of the resort from our room.

This is a picture at the top of the lift. It was foggy at the top of the lift most of the time we were there but the runs were great!

We ate breakfast and lunch at the same little cafe everyday. They had great food and it was convinent.

David started the trip off by getting lost on the first two runs down the hill. The first time he was back with Kelly and I was a little ahead with Kage. Kelly went off a hill and David decided he wanted to follow me instead. Problem was he didn't know where I went. After some help from the some strangers he finally made it down. On the next time down he went a little ahead. Took a wrong turn and then climbed back up the hill and came down. In the mean time I had gone ahead and Kelly stayed back to look for him. David came out before Kelly did but all was good. David learned to stay a little closer the rest of the trip.

They had the best kids area I have ever seen! It had a beginner terrain park that Kelly and the boys had fun trying out some jumps and boxes. Here's Kelly and David going off the jump. Kage struggled a little more with the jump but he had fun trying.

Friday night the moon looked incredible coming up over the mountain. It had been cloudy most of the day but right at the end of the day it cleared up. This picture doesn't do it justice but it was beautiful.
That night we went on a sleigh ride dinner. The horse drawn sleigh took us from the resort through the forest to a yurt. Where they served a delicious dinner of hot scones, steak or chicken, dutch oven potatoes, mixed vegetables, then cheesecake for dessert. If you ate very much of one item they were right there filling your plate with more food than you could eat. It was a very fun outing.

The further up the hill you went the more the trees looked like this. It is hard to imagine that these are pine trees! They have layers and layers of snow and ice on them.
Saturday afternoon after we were done skiing/ boarding for the afternoon the boys went sledding. They got to ride what they called the magic carpet up to the top of the hill then ride down in these fun tubes. They had a blast!
Here is quick video clip of the boys coming down the hill.

Sunday it was the long drive home. We had a great trip and are now looking forward to going on another ski trip to Lake Tahoe at the end of the month with some of Kelly's family.

Happy New Year!

I thought I would start with a picture of what Kage spent half the afternoon doing. We have enough snow on the back steps that Kelly smoothed it out with other snow from the deck then Kage would go down on the sled.

New Years Eve we ended up with a full blown party at our house. It started with one other couple on Sunday, then a second couple on Monday, and then two more couples on Wednesday morning. For a last minute party it ended up being a lot of fun.

Here are a few fireworks we let off at midnight.

Here are the kids watching the fireworks.

Some of the neighbors that came over.

We hope everyone had a great new year!
